LOCAL YOUTH ORGANIZATION
February 23, 2012, Eatonville, FL-- Former NBA All-Star And Current Analyst On TNT’s Hit Show Surprises Every Kid Outreach in Eatonville, FL
NBA All- Star weekend has kicked off here in Orlando and has immediately began to put its stamp on the greater Orlando community by honoring one of the cities shining organizations, Every Kid Outreach and longtime youth ambassador Eddie Cole.
As many stars and celebrities arrive in Orlando for the 2012 NBA All Star Weekend, TNT’s very own Kenny “The Jet” Smith made a stop in the historical town of Eatonville to pay a special visit to a local youth organization. On his very first day in town, Smith took time to recognize a long-standing youth organization, Every Kid Outreach. The event, which was held in Eatonville, attracted residents, community leaders and youth of the oldest African American municipality in America, who welcomed Smith with great enthusiasm. Smith spoke to over 200 youth from schools that currently benefit from EKO’s exceptional programs such as Edgewater High, Robert E Lee Middle, Lockhart Middle, Maitland Middle and the Life Academy. He spoke about the importance of a successful and ambitious mindset and as he addressed the kids, Smith verbally illustrated the endless opportunities he encountered along his athletic journey and encouraged the students to strive for positions in life that would create opportunities to excel within the field of leadership.
Then Smith turned the focus of the event to honoring EKO Founder Eddie Cole, a long time Central Florida youth advocate. Cole, who assist with the Orlando Magic Chapel programs have personally mentored former NBA stars Eric Snow and Chucky Atkins. In recognition for EKO’s contribution to the youth of central Florida and Mr. Cole’s selfless contributions over the past 30 years, AutoTrader.com awarded the organization with a 2012 Kia Sorento, This generous gift and recognition comes at a great time as the organization is preparing to raise support for their semiannual outreach camp in Ocklawaha, FL which give over 500 teenagers the opportunity to get away from the social pressures of the teenage realm and introduces them to life changing and character building experiences. These objectives are accomplished through workshops, music and guest speakers which included J J Redick of the Orlando Magic. This event will take place on March 30-April 1st. Cole who was so honored by the recognition believes the camping experience is the hub to all programs offered by EKO. EKO also sponsors numerous programs for kids in our community and invests countless hours mentoring youth at localschools. One of those many programs is 5th quarter. 5th quarter allows middle and high school youth a place to hang out on Friday nights after high school local school athletic events.
The story, along with more details on this monumental experience, will be broadcast Saturday during this All-Star weekend. For more information on how to support Every Kid Outreach, please visit their website www.eko91.org or contact their office at (407) 629-4507.
